Case Study of Marketing Strategies
If you have heard of NFTs, you’ll probably also hear about Bored Ape Yacht Club and CryptoPunks. Both these NFT projects have always been constantly in the spotlight for its sky high selling price. Or wondered what makes the World of Women (WoW) so valuable? VeeFriends, CloneX, Karafuru, Azuki, Doodles and Cool Cats NFT will be some of the projects that we will be exploring in this article.
Things to Know About CryptoPunks
What are CryptoPunks?
CryptoPunks is a non-fungible token (NFT) collection on the Ethereum blockchain. CryptoPunks are commonly credited with starting the NFT craze of 2021, along with other early projects including CryptoKitties and Bored Ape Yacht Club.
Being one of the early pioneers in the NFT space, CryptoPunks is Ethereum’s oldest NFT project which has turned into sort of a cult-like culture.
In its initial days, CryptoPunks was even handed out for free. About 20-30 punks were claimed following the launch. It was until a week later, an article by Mashable (https://mashable.com/article/cryptopunks-ethereum-art-collectibles) helped propel and within hours every punk was gone. Several punk owners feel that holding a portion of the CryptoPunks’ finite quantity has become a “digital flex” in its own right as values have risen, especially when used as an avatar on social networking platforms. Outside of the blockchain industry, this has attracted a slew of affluent purchasers, including YouTuber Logan Paul.
Larva Labs is unlikely to produce any more CryptoPunks, given their limited availability and status as one of the oldest NFTs on the market. This is also what makes CryptoPunks even more valuable. As CryptoPunks were one of the early starters, many are starting to replicate its attributes; some have succeeded while some have failed.
Bored Ape Yacht Club Marketing Strategy
NFT Project
What is Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC)?
It’s a collection of non-fungible tokens, or NFTs, launched by a startup called Yuga Labs in spring 2021. Each NFT corresponds to a cartoon ape customized with unique color schemes, facial expressions, and outfits.
Eric Siu breaks down on BAYC’s marketing – that is the gold standard for NFT marketing – from capitalizing on exclusivity, to creating utility, to cultivating community. He speaks on the utility to go on a yacht with other apes and house parties with celebrities.
